New to sideloading? This page takes you from zero to installed in about 15 minutes. Pick a path, grab the tools, done.
An .apk is the file an Android app comes in — it's the whole app, packaged up. Normally the Play Store downloads and installs them for you. Sideloading means installing an .apk yourself, outside the Play Store. The apps in this horde come from open-source catalogs and big APK mirrors, plus modded builds uploaded by the community.
To install one you just tap the downloaded file — Android will ask you to allow "Install unknown apps" for that app once, then it's like any other install. Three ways to go about it below — pick the one that fits you.
// fresh updates — unconfirmed rumors are marked as such
⚠ Play Protect is tightening up on unknown-source installs. Google keeps making the install flow scarier for APKs that don't come from the Play Store — more warning screens, and on some devices Play Protect now blocks the install outright unless you tap through explicitly. The warnings are real and you should read them (survival rule ①).
⚠ F-Droid's anti-feature labels are your friend. F-Droid flags apps that contain ads, tracking, or proprietary bits right in the listing. This site surfaces those flags as ⚠ rows in the app's details — an app with a Tracking flag isn't necessarily evil, but you deserve to know before it phones home.
⚠ "Mod APK" repack scams are everywhere. If a mirror offers a famous paid app for free with "premium unlocked", the signature row will often tell the story: a different signing key than the one F-Droid lists means somebody repackaged it. Mods can hide malware — that's exactly what the VERIFICATION row checks for.

F-Droid and IzzyOnDroid plug straight into the F-Droid client. Open F-Droid → Settings → Repositories → + and paste these:
https://f-droid.org/repohttps://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/repo★ = curated open-source catalog — human-reviewed, built from source.
★ F-Droid (4,667 builds) · ★ IzzyOnDroid (1,400 builds) · Aptoide (845 builds) · APKPure (288 builds) · APKCombo (0 builds) · LiteAPKs (770 builds) · APKVision (735 builds) · HappyMod (788 builds) · AN1 (357 builds).
F-Droid and IzzyOnDroid repo URLs can be pasted into F-Droid → Settings → Repositories → +. Aptoide, APKPure, and APKCombo are websites, not repos — the horde indexes them, but there's no repo URL to paste.
// trust-ranked — curated open-source catalogs first, big commercial mirrors second
Rule of thumb: prefer curated open-source catalogs, then big commercial mirrors — and always read an app's details panel (package-name match, signature row, version sanity) before installing anything. No list makes sideloading risk-free.
① Play Protect will warn — read the warning. Unknown-source installs trigger warnings. Don't tap through blind; if the warning names something you don't recognize, stop.
② Updates are on you with direct APKs. F-Droid updates its own apps; direct .apk downloads don't — re-download the newer build yourself and install it over the old one.
③ "App not installed" on update = different signer. If an update refuses with "App not installed", the new build was signed with a different key than the old one. Only uninstall and reinstall if you trust the new source — otherwise walk away.
④ Mods ≠ original. Modded builds can get accounts banned. Never sideload banking, payment, or 2FA apps from anywhere but the Play Store.
⑤ Check the package name. Compare it against the Play Store listing — a lookalike package name is a classic repack tell.
// the errors every beginner hits, and the fix for each
// every app's details panel runs these checks for you — here's what they mean, and what to check yourself
① Read the SIGNATURE row. Same signing key across sources is the strongest signal this site has — it means independent sources all got the build from the same signer.
② More sources beats one. An app listed by several independent sources is a weak positive signal. A lone upload to a single source deserves a harder look.
③ The version must not exceed the curated catalog. If a mirror claims a newer version than F-Droid lists, walk away — that's a classic fake. Older builds are usually just outdated.
④ Check anti-features. The VERIFICATION row flags catalog anti-features like Tracking or Ads — know what you're installing.
⑤ Check the mod label. The MODS row says what's modified. Google "mod name malware" before installing anything that handles logins or money.
⑥ File size sanity. A real APK is megabytes to hundreds of MB — a 2 MB "VLC" is not VLC.
⑦ Nothing here proves safety. These checks catch fakes and sloppiness, not a well-made trojan. If an app asks for permissions or logins it shouldn't need, delete it.
// repacked builds from LiteAPKs, APKVision, HappyMod, AN1 — dashed ⚠ MOD tags
① A mod is a repack. Somebody took the original app, modified it (premium unlocked, no ads, unlimited money…), and re-signed it with their key — the original developer did NOT sign the file you're downloading. That's why the SIGNATURE row shows a mod warning instead of a match.
② Never for banking, payment, or 2FA apps. A repacked banking app is a credential-theft kit with a bow on it. This is the one hard rule — no exceptions, no "but the comments say it's fine".
③ Read the SAFETY row. It shows raw engine counts — "3/72 engines flagged" — never a clean/dirty badge. A few flags on a mod is normal (antivirus heuristics trip on packers); 5+ engines flagging is the walk-away line. URLhaus-listed download URLs are an instant walk-away.
④ Mods can get accounts banned. Games especially — unlimited-money builds trip server-side checks. Use a throwaway account or accept the risk.
⑤ "App not installed" on update = signature clash. The mod's key differs from your installed copy (Play Store or another modder). Uninstalling first erases the app's local data — back up or export before you do.
⑥ When in doubt, the F-Droid build of the same app. If this site lists the same package from F-Droid or IzzyOnDroid, that's the build someone compiled from published source. Boring beats burned.
Paste any direct .apk link → download + install. Honest note: Android has no universal one-tap install scheme, so this page builds download links and store-app links — not faked deep-links. Nothing is uploaded; everything happens on your device.
